Richmond Vale Academy is located in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, a small poorer island nation with a population of 120,000 people.
The campus is in the heart of 30 acres at the foot of "La Soufriere" Volcano.
Richmond Vale Academy main focus is on sustainability. RVA grows organic vegetables and fruits and also keep bees, chicken, pigs, sheep and horses. The aim is to produce all of the basic food and energy consumed on campus within the next 2 years.
Richmond Vale Academy also has some big goals: "The St. Vincent Climate Compliance Conference 2012 - 2021" is an initiative to help St. Vincent become a food, energy and disaster secure nation. RVA offers an 18-month Fighting with the Poor program, where the students complete their service work in Latin America.
RVA also offers a one month and a six month Climate Activist Program. The campus is run on a "collective", which means that the staff and students run the school. Everyone cooks, cleans, grow food, takes care of the property and makes decisions about financial matters. The staff and students also assist in running the income generating project "Richmond Vale Nature and Hiking Center" an Eco-tourism project where funds are raised through inviting tourists to learn about St.Vincent and visit the natural wonders of the island.
